maintenance and social services.
A participant in the SDC WRAP project is the
Perez family who live within the program target area on Milwaukee’s
Southside. As part of the program, SDC constructed an Energy House
within one of its neighborhood centers in the target area to show
visitors energy conservation tips in English and Spanish. Mr. Perez
visited the Energy House while applying for help with his energy bills.
He was impressed with what he learned and soon met with an SDC case
manager to sign up for WRAP.
Through the program, contractors provided a
number of services to address needs within the Perez home. The work
included sealing gaps in the walls, insulation, installation of
energy-efficient windows, proper venting of the kitchen and bathroom and
rebuilding the front porch to replace rotted wood and crumbled footings.
The Perez’ participation in WRAP did not end
with the contractors’ work however. WRAP strives to make sure
homeowners can maintain their dwelling long after the work is
completed. “Energy education plays an important role in this process,”
says Lamont Davis, manager of the SDC WRAP program. |
