What is the Poverty Matters Conference?
This conference, formerly know as the "Women and Poverty Conference", brings together human service professionals, community leaders, state officials, low-income advocates, educators, and low-income people to talk about the causes and solutions to poverty. This conference has been held in Wisconsin for over 20 years!
This unique networking environment supports the sharing of ideas, identification of new and continuing successful strategies, greater integration of service provision, and a better understanding
of how low-income people and community based organizations can work together to promote economic opportunity.

Poverty Matters:
Low-Income Citizens speak to Community Action in Wisconsin
Wisconsin’s Community Action Agencies (CAAs) help low-income households become economically self-sufficient and, in the process, help local communities grow and nurture their economic health. Community Action Agencies give direct voice to their low-income customers. Low-income representatives make up 1/3 of CAA agency Boards of Directors. Low-income households participate in identifying priorities, service design and provision, and evaluation of program operations.. Click here to read more!!
Pat Car Star Autbody wins Helping Hand AwardAward at 2010 Poverty Matter Conference
November 29th, 2010
Pat’s Carstar of Plover was recognized with the WISCAP “Helping Hand Award” at its annual “Poverty Matters” conference in Appleton on November 17. Owner Pat Arnold, his wife Sandy, and Tony Kempen accepted the award to a standing ovation by the 225 conference participants for their work in the National Recycled Rides Program. Mary Patoka of CAP Services presented the award and commented on the importance of reliable transportation for employment, accessing medical and other services as well as allowing families to fully participate in their communities, especially for low-income families. Pat’s contribution has a significant impact on the three families receiving the vehicles to date.
